1970 Pontiac GTO – $ 33,333 – Hanover, MA –

This car is a real 1970 GTO.  I added the Judge wing and accent stripes as a Judge tribute. The car shows its original color of Pallisades green, with a dark green interior. While the car was originally built with a Pontiac 400 under the hood, it now features a non-matching correct 1970 455 V8. It feathers automatic transmission and has undergone a professional frame-off restoration. The car is gorgeous from top to bottom and is road ready for the oncoming cruise night circuit. Come and take a look, listen to the growling flowmaster exhaust coming from the deep-breathing 455 monster, and make me a strong offer!  the frame and undercarriage are rock solid.  The interior is in great shape, with new seat covers and original solid door panels.  The car’s odometer is as it was when I bought it, likely on its second turn.  The motor is a 1970 Pontiac 455 with 4bbl carb.  This car runs, drives, sounds, and looks fantastic.  I’m selling some of my classic Pontiac collection and reinvesting the money into a new dealership for preowned and classic cars after selling my Buick, Pontiac, GMC shop to some big shots in 2012.  Take a look and see what you think.  The car is currently on display indoors at the Hanover Mall.  Feel free to contact me for more information.

Unique Restoration of Mario Andretti’s Brawner Hawk

Won Best in Class – Race Cars (1961-1967) and the Phil Hill Restorer’s Award

Historic Car to Appear at the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500

CHARLOTTE — When Ray Evernham chose the 21st annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance to debut his restoration of the car that took Mario Andretti to the 1965 USAC National Championship and Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award, he knew it was a special car for such a prestigious show.

And he was correct.  His painstakingly accurate restoration of Mario Andretti’s Brawner Hawk, led by famed Indy 500 Crew Chief Jim McGee, appeared at the 2016 Amelia Island Concours exactly as it did in May 1965 when Andretti won Indy’s Rookie-of-the-Year honors with a third place finish in the 49th   running of the Memorial Day classic.

The Brawner Hawk was given the recognition it deserved by the concours judges, as it was awarded Best in Class – Race Cars (1961-1967) and the Phil Hill Restorer’s Award, which is an award created to honor the artisan whose restoration of a classic, antique, historic or competition car is judged the best new restoration in its first concours appearance.

“I’ve been a lifelong fan of Mario Andretti.  I watched him race growing up and have always admired his talent, his business leadership, his commitment to philanthropy and his passion for the sport,” said Evernham.  “To be able to restore his rookie Indy Car was truly a special opportunity. I can’t thank Jim McGee enough for leading the restoration of the car and am thrilled the Brawner Hawk was not only recognized for its historical significance but also for all of the effort Jim and the team put into it.”

“From the historian’s point of view, Ray Evernham’s ’65 Brawner Hawk is a pivotally important car,” said Bill Warner, founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. “It crystalizes a moment of monumental change in American race car design and construction: a true ‘technological changing of the guard’ — the first American-built rear engine car to win the national championship.”

This car launched the Andretti legend: Mario not only won the Indy 500, he ultimately won the Daytona 500 and the Formula 1 World Championship. It all started in 1965 in the cockpit of Clint Brawner’s first rear-engine car that made its concours debut on March 13, 2016 at Amelia Island, Florida.

The 1965 Brawner Hawk’s next stop will be Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indianapolis 500 race weekend, where Mario Andretti will once again get behind the wheel of his rookie Indy Car for the first time in nearly 50 years.

The 2016 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance was held March 11 to 13 on the 10th and 18th fairways of The Golf Club of Amelia Island at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.  The show’s Foundation has donated over $ 2.75 million to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc. and other charities on Florida’s First Coast since its inception in 1996. In 2013 the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance won Octane Magazine’s EFG International Historic Motoring Event of the Year award.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle – $ 26,500 – Brookings, SD –

A 2 owner car from Nebraska this Chevelle was a very clean car before it went thru restoration.  As you can see by the description below that this car has been restored correctly and no corners were cut.  If we didn't rebuild or replace a part they were inspected to make sure they were in good shape.  The cars drives great.  It has 76,000 miles which are supposed to be actual but I have no documentation.  It does have it's original matching numbers 350 and  factory 4 speed transmission.  The exterior has been beautifully done in it's original factory color of Cortez Silver.  We replaced all area's of rust with new metal including rear quarters, wheel houses, trunk fillers.  It was media blasted to bare metal.  The remainder of the sheet metal is original.  We also replaced the hood with a domed SS hood.  The interior has been completely gone thru with either new or refinished original parts, including seat covers, carpet, headliner, door panels, sound deadner, package tray, rear seat divider, arm rest and sill plates.  Mechanically we replaced the brakes, park brake cables, heater core, rebuilt the carb, control arm bushings, choke pull off, tune up, radiator, tires, hoses, exhaust and rebuilt the shifter.  Exterior we put new emblems, including adding the SS stripping and emblems , complete weatherstrip, A-Arm flaps, wheel well mouldings, drip rail mouldings, grille, rear view mirror, rear bumper, hood insulation and gaskets to all lens and locks.  The underneath has been painted and detailed, the trunk has been sprayed in correct splatter paint and clear coated.  The engine compartment has been detailed.   The exterior, interior and underneath are excellent and show quality.  This car has many new parts and has gone thru our inspection and everything works.  You are buying it from the restorer not a dealer that just buys them done and flips them, this is a quality car and we can show receipts and tell you what all work has been done.  Located in White, SD call Dirk 605-695-7391 for appointment to test drive.

358 - Angelo's, 1972 Buick Skylark Custom, 1967 Chevrolet Impala SS CC

There’s a reason why the concept of the drive-in had struck a chord with so many Americans.  Whether a restaurant or a theater, the drive-in allowed for the enjoyment of our beloved cars in addition to whatever else the destination offered.  I was reminded of this while revisiting one of my favorite diners and lunch counters back home in Flint, Michigan several summers back.  I felt it was especially appropriate that there was both a Buick (1971 Skylark Custom hardtop) and a Chevrolet (’67 Impala SS fastback) parked out front, as Flint famously built models from both makes, at one time.

In the interest of full disclosure, it’s probably not a regular occurrence that vintage GM, golden-era muscle machines just happen to park at Angelo’s Coney Island on the East Side at any old time.  While its true that many (mostly GM-branded) classics come out of hiding in late spring and roam the streets of Genesee County through the summer months, this particular sighting was during the week of the annual Back To The Bricks car festival.  This main show, the festival’s centerpiece, happens downtown all day on a Saturday in August, bringing literally hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of classic vehicles to the red brick pavement of main thoroughfare Saginaw St. for a day of chrome, steel, music, eats and treats.  Still, the sight of this pairing felt pretty serendipitous as I pulled into the parking lot of this neighborhood staple for a couple of coneys, a plate of fries, and a Mountain Dew.

378 - Angelo's in Flint, August 2010 CC

Seeing these two cars at Angelo’s was a reminder of the magic of growing up in this Rust Belt town full of factory workers (“shop” guys – and gals) who had all the know-how and skill to actually fix up and tool around in older cars, with many making it seem so effortless that anyone (i.e. many a hapless teenager) could do it.  And so, after an intoxicating whiff of the Skylark’s vinyl interior while passing by its open, driver’s side window, I sat down atop a stool at the diner’s counter for a meal, wondering who among the other patrons either one of these cars belonged to.  (I did end up striking up a conversation with the owner of the Impala, the details of which are somewhat foggy to me now.  Perhaps I’ll get another chance to interview him for a future piece, which will hopefully include more pictures of that nice coupe.)

474 - Angelo's Drive Through, Flint CC

I flashed back to the mid-90’s after having moved from this area (Flint is still “home” to me), when I had owned my ’88 Ford Mustang LX 2.3L.  I would spend most Saturday mornings detailing it after getting back from my early-morning shift as a groundskeeper and landscaper at a golf course in Ft. Myers, Florida (dirty work in a posh country club).  My car would be spotless when I would drive it up to the local Dairy Queen around lunch time.  Occasionally, I would eat in my car, with the rich scent of cherry “Tire Wet” dressing and cherry air-freshener mingling pleasantly with the delicious aroma of hamburgers and fries and the taste of the sweet tartness of a cherry slush.  There would also be the faint trace in the air of the Armor All on the vinyl dashboard and interior panels, normally somewhat pungent but inoffensive amid these other smells.  Sometimes, though, I’d find a booth inside the restaurant next to a window, through which I’d gaze lovingly at the prettiest four-cylinder Mustang hatchback in all of Lee County.  (Ah, to be able to eat and drink what I want anymore without adverse consequences, as I did in my teens and twenties!)

370 - Angelo's Flint February 2011 CC

It dawned on me that perhaps my desire to enjoy both my car and my meal at the same time was some kind of instinctual throwback to when I was a young boy and wanted to bring my favorite Matchbox cars to the dinner table.  It actually all kind of made sense.  Whereas an admonishment from my parents that my toy cars may be (really) dirty and didn’t belong next to where I was eating, it would then stand to reason why, as an adult, I would make sure my car was spotless on weekends before bringing it to “table” at the local DQ.

373 - 2009 Synergy Green Chevrolet Camaro, Angelo's Flint February 2011

Enjoying a meal while also enjoying my car seemed to appeal to something so deeply rooted in my psyche – as if that was, obviously, just the way it was meant to be.  There’s just something liberating about getting into your own, prized automobile – which represents a near-perfect combination of freedom, art and power – to go your favorite eating place to stuff your face to your heart’s content.  I have read pieces about the intersection of Americans’ love of the diner and the automobile which have been well-researched and more eloquently stated, but for my part, I would just like to offer a Homer Simpson-style “Aaarrgh!!...” for the experience of beholding and appreciating genuine Detroit (or Flint) iron over a blue-plate, blue collar feast.

East Side, Flint, Michigan – as photographed at various points from between August 2010 through August 2012.

1964 Buick Riviera – $ 22,500 – Santa Monica, CA –

West Coast Classics are proud to present a great daily driving example of this original southern California rust free 1964 Buick Riviera coupe with its original matching #’s 425/340HP ‘Wildcat’ engine with 465 torque and finished in its original and striking ‘Silver Cloud Metallic’ (Code DD) color paint with its original ‘Black’ (Trim Code 608) interior with bucket seats and a center console with a console mounted transmission shifter with a super turbine 400 automatic transmission and loaded with factory options including power steering & brakes and added factory options including:

Air conditioning ($ 430)
Tilt Steering Wheel ($ 43)
Buick ‘Sonomatic’ AM/FM radio ($ 179)
Power Windows ($ 108)
Power Drivers Seat ($ 71)
Remote Mirror
and still boasting its original spinner hubcaps and its spare wheel and original carpet in the trunk!

Purchased by its most recent southern California owner in 2002 and was always garaged and rarely driven. The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are solid and rust-free and the car has no signs of any accidents of any kind. The car has obviously always been garaged and looks very impressive although it should be noted that its older re-paint in it’s original factory ‘Silver Cloud Metallic’ color paint is beginning to show its age and there are a couple of very minor parking lot dings. The original ‘Black’ vinyl interior is in very good condition with only very minor signs of any wear only noticeable upon very close inspection, for instance the original headliner is starting to separate very slightly above the rear seats. All the chromework is in excellent condition.

The cars original matching #’s 425/340HP ‘Wildcat’ engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently – must be driven to be full appreciated – drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles – a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for it’s money! The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, there are no noticeable oil leaks and the temperature always remains cool!

This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and never abused example of an original southern California 1964 Buick Riviera in exceptional condition throughout and one very highly desirable and collectible example of one of the outstanding GM designs of the sixties, reflecting the styling supremo of Bill Mitchell with a masterful blend of curves and razor-edges, dubbed the anti-Thunderbird and respected by an army of industrial designers as an architectural landmark of the U.S industry and which has gained high repute amongst collectors for both it’s beautiful lines and smooth fast performance for a luxury coupe. “One of the most beautiful cars America ever built” as stated by none other than Sergio Pininfarina of Ferrari design fame at it’s debut at the Paris auto show in 1963. This landmark design would continue for only two years until 1964 before a hidden headlight change in 1965, making these two particular years of 1963/4 arguably the most collectible and desirable and with all 1963-65 models boasting ‘Milestone Car’ status.

In summary, this is one great collectible classic car ready to enjoy today – an original ‘Black Plate’ southern California car – perfect for the Buick enthusiast to fully restore and a sure-fire investment that’s sure to appreciate over the years for any classic American sixties car collector!
